Course objectives
The course enables students to meet real ways of funding the real projects in the field of social policy and social work from national and European sources. It enables especially to develop students´ competences needed for writing such projects because students are taught how to design and write their own project aimed at the specific target group in specific region/locality.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students gain key theoretical and practical knowledge about the ways of creating and managing projects in the field of social policy and social work with regard to available financial, personnel and technological resources. They will create (write) their own, viable project, which will be the result of their ability: to identify key problems of the specific issue in the selected region / locality, and to propose specific goals and measures leading to their achievement.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to the projecting in the social sciences
  • Consultation on step 1: selection of the issue/problem and formulation of the idea of its solution
  • Identification of social problems and their causes through existing theories and empirical data sources
  • Consultation on step 2: description of the problem and suggestion of criteria for adequate solution
  • Actors involved in the creation and implementation of programs in the field of social policy and social work at the local level
  • Consultation on step 3: defining the context of the problem situation of the target population and specifying methods of intervention
  • Types of interventions (tools, measures, methods, techniques) used to solve social problems at the local level
  • Consultation on step 4: creation of a schedule of individual activities
  • Negotiation methods applied at the community level and their use in creating projects Consultation on step 5: consultation of the project proposal with relevant partners
  • Use of ESF funds to finance projects and Financial balance sheet of projects
  • Consultation on step 6: final consultation and creation of the final version of the project proposal Consultation on step 7: preparation of the project for submission according to the requested form

Assessment methods
The course emphasizes the student's independent creative activity supported by numerous consultations with the teacher. The course begins with the selection of a real issue and the definition of the problem on which the project focuses and ends with the submission of viable project that solves a real problem situation. The elaboration of this project has a cumulative character, ie the current works (steps) follow the previous works.
