Course objectives
The main aim of this subject is to obtain the basic orientation in the regulation of the relations with international element, especially in the framework of EC. Main objectives may be summarized as follows: to become acquainted with the subject of private international law; to understand the function of the choice-of-law method; to understand the reasons of creating of European judicial area; to become acquainted with the most important instruments existing in the European judicial area.

  • Basic institutes of Private International Law and of International Civil Procedure
  • European judicial area in civil matters
  • International jurisdiction - regulation Brussels I
  • Recognition and enforcement – regulation Brussels I
  • Recognition and enforcement – EEO, EPO, small claims
  • Legal aid, authentic instrument, service of documents
  • Applicable law – Rome convention, regulation Rome I
  • Applicable law - regulation Rome II
  • Family relations – applicable law, jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement
  • Insolvency
  • Protection of consumers in PIL
Literature
Teaching methods
Theoretical training; seminar.
Assessment methods
The essay on the scheduled topic (aprx. 10 pages), written exam - test with questions YES/NO, final result - the combination of the evaluation of the above mentioned essay and the mark from the test.
