Course objectives
The main objective of the course is basic practical skills and orientation in operating various sources of legal information. After the successful pass of the course a student should be able to:
- find basic legal information on the Internet
- find laws, regulations and other legal documents using system ASPI, Beck-online and Codexis
- evaluate a creditibility and validity of the information
- solve basic legal problems using the legal information systems
Syllabus
  • Data, information, knowledge, legal information and their typology. Retrieving legal information via Internet.
  • Using ASPI legal information retrieval system, basic workings, underlying principles, contents of the individual modules, retrieving information contained in statutes of law, case law and other legal documents, exercises.
  • U sing CODEXIS legal information retrieval system, basic workings, underlying principles, contents of the individual modules, retrieving information contained in statutes of law, case law and other legal documents, exercises.
  • Using Beck-online legal information retrieval system, basic workings, underlying principles, contents of the individual modules, retrieving information contained in statutes of law, case law and other legal documents, exercises.

Teaching methods
Practice in PC room.
Assessment methods
Participation at seminars is compulsory – students are solving here particular practical assignments. The course is concluded by a colloquium that is awarded upon completion of a test of theoretical knowledge (successfully managed to gain 20 points from possible 30) and solution of practical assignments. Details are in interactive curricula.
