Course objectives
The aim of the module is the following: understanding of different forms of software protection in European law and US law
understanding the practical application of copyright protection software
complex understanding of legal aspects of software development and running thereof
a practical solution for distributing software under the public licenses
understanding the legal aspects of running software as a service, including deploying software in a cloud computing environment
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to solve complex legal issues related to legal protection, development, distribution and use of software.

  • the notion of software as an object of intellectual property rights protection
  • copyright protection software, protection of non-literary software components
  • patent protection software
  • legal aspects of software development - rights to software (employee's work, contract for work, collective work, co-author's work), protection of confidential information, business secrets
  • software contracts (contract, licensing agreement, software analysis contract, software development and implementation contract, service and maintenance contract)
  • software complex outsourcing, Service Level agreements (SLAs)
  • legal aspects of Cloud Computing
  • Free and Open Source Software licensing models
