Course objectives
The main goal of the course is to introduce the sociological understanding of law as an essential methodological concept of law complementary to the normative approach. Students will be able to: - identify individual elements of the mechanism of legal regulation; - explain the mechanism of law in action to society; - analyze the social contexts of legal phenomena; - characterize the functions and role of law in society; - analyze the relationship between law - legal consciousness - legal behavior; - define the concept of normality, social deviation and social control; - characterize selected directions and representatives of sociology of law.
Syllabus
  • Definition of sociology of law. Main representatives and directions of sociology of law. Mechanism of legal regulation. Functions and roles of law in society. Law in the socio-cultural system. Legal consciousness, legal action and effectiveness of law. Social control, normality and deviation. Sociological and legal research.

Teaching methods
Lectures with presentations and seminar interactive exercises with practical tasks.
Assessment methods
Written examination (10 questions - minimum 50% correct answers) and oral. The condition for the exam is active participation in seminars with a maximum of one absence.
