Course objectives
The main objectives can be summarized as follows: to be introduced to legal French to learn specific features of the French legal system to get new knowledge and new communicative competences and oral skills, in particular understanding both written and spoken texts.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to understand texts on specific topics and explain the key concepts of criminal law. Lexis and grammar of the language for specific purposes. They will be able to use this information in discussions on specific topics, to explain and to support their arguments. Using acquired knowledge students will be able to interpret unknown texts.

Instruction techniques: analysis of legal texts, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, independent speaking.
Assessment methods
Acquisition of key professional and language skills will be verified by means of a written test (questions with controlled answers, questions with open answers, translation, filling in terms and sentences). The minimum success rate is 70%. Prerequisites for a successful completion of the course include active participation in the seminars (80 %).

At the end of the course students will be able to understand texts on specific topics and explain the key concepts in the following areas: Business Law, Contract, Taxes end Budget, Constitutional Systems in French-Speaking Countries, Case law of the European Court of Justice. The aim of the course is to expose the students to various types of authentic legal texts - both written and oral.
Syllabus
  • Topics for exploring and working with the texts and communicating professional issues relating to the following fields: Employment Law and Social Security Law, Business Law, Contract, Environmental Law, European Law, Judicature of the European Court. Lexis and grammar of the language for specific purposes.
