Prerequisites
The prerequisite for the course Introduction to English for Lawyers is the language competence at the pre-intermediate level (A2 - ERF)

Course objectives
The course develops language skills, especially reading comprehension and writing. The students are expected to reach the language competence of B1 level applied to specific and academic language. At the end of this course students will be able to understand simple texts on specific topics, deduce the meanings of unknown words from a context and define key legal terms.

  • 1. Basic legal terms - what is law, introduction to legal English 2. Lawyers at work, curriculum vitae, job interview 3. Fundamental rights - constitutional and human rights 4. Public administration 5. Correspondence with citizens and institutions - formal letters, e-mails

Teaching methods
The course is taught on the basis of an e-learning program with an introductory seminar.
Assessment methods
The course is ended by a written exam. A formal letter of approximately 2 pages.
