Course objectives
The aim of the course is to gain deeper knowledge about the development of Bohemia in the period of feudalism, to understand the importance of the feudal system and the relation between the state and the church for the organization of the state; to expound on the specifics of feudal law and to understand the importance of the reception of Roman law, both based on analysing sources of law and historical legal documents, and to gain deeper knowledge about the development of the state and law on the territory of the Czech countries from the period of enlightened absolutism to the termination of Habsburg Monarchy.
Learning outcomes
- To look up and examine current legal historical topics by using scientific methods;
- To evaluate in a timely manner some later legal regulations, including the applicable law, whilst using the knowledge about development of legal institutions;
- To organize and write down the collected data, interpret the results achieved, present the findings and defend them in relevant forum;
- To deepen continually the student’s knowledge of the discipline.
Syllabus
  • Beginning of Bohemia and its law and its further development in the period of feudalism;
  • development of Czech law, sources of law, legal particularism, law making and application of law;
  • significant legal historical documents, influence by foreign law, unification of Czech-Austrian law;
  • codifications in the period of enlightened absolutism in 19th century;
  • revolution 1848 and its influence on legal development;
  • constitutional development in the 2nd half of 19th century;
  • development of the right to vote;
  • characteristic of basic branches of law.
