Cíle předmětu
At the end of the course, the students should
be familiar with the various regimes of private international law currently applicable in the European Union;
be able to solve case-problems involving the nationals of the ‘old’ and ‘new’ Member States.

Metody hodnocení
Successful completion of the course requires active participation in the discussion seminars and handing in the final case-problem. Paper: After the end of the course the students have one week to solve the final case problem, which should be sent to the following e-mail: maarja.torga@ut.ee. It should be typed, single spaced and no longer than 10 pages. Final papers are due by 5pm on November 18, 2013. The mark ‘pass’ will be awarded based on the solution to the final case-problem (80%) and class participation (20%). Class attendance is required and attendance will be taken each session. If an absence is necessitated by unavoidable circumstances, please notify the instructor in advance. Missing more than four hours may result in your withdrawal from the course.

The course looks at the harmonization process of the European private international law, taking into account the peculiar viewpoint of the participants of the EU 2004 enlargement, including the Republic of Estonia and the Czech Republic. The course aims to give the students a novel approach to the European private international law and to develop their skills of solving characterization and choice-of-law problems.
