Cíle předmětu
At the end of the course, students should be able to
(1) understand and explain the main legal cultures of the world and their geographic spread;
(2) possess a basic understanding of the principal general problems of comparative law, such as the issues of comparability and comparative evaluation;
(3) discuss and attempt to explain the existence of similarities and differences between various legal systems;
(4) demonstrate improved skills to communication with foreign jurists, and
(5) possess basic knowledge about the most important legal systems, such as English, American, French, German, Islamic and Confucian law, including their historical background, sources of law, judiciary and legal professions.

Prof. JUDr. dr.jur. Michael Bogdan, born in 1946 in Banská Bystrica in former Czechoslovakia. Since 1968 he has been living in Sweden and is since 1995 Professor of Comparative and Private International Law in the Law Faculty of the University of Lund. Member and former President of GEDIP (Groupe européen de droit international privé), member of the International Academy of Comparative Law and associated member of the Institut de droit international. Author of 12 books and more than 400 articles and reviews on various legal subjects.
