Course objectives
This subject is theoretically practical. Its conception comes from the profile of a bachelor midwife. The subject matter consists of basic definitions, philosophy and historical aspects, the elements which form the personality of a professional midwife. The target of the classes is to inform students about how to asses a client in health as well as in illness by particular theories and models (discussion, observation, information extraction from documentation) with a consideration of specific needs of individuals and families. Adequate response to problematic situations in the nursing practice is taught in this subject. There is a practice of midwife’s communication skills – professional discussion, effective communication with woman under the day to day stress situations. Learning outcomes – student is able to: - briefly describe historical sources of nursing and midwifery in the Czech Republic as well as in world wide context; - orientate her/himself in heath and illness problems; - describe worldwide, European and national strategy of health care management; - explain idea of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and care; - define new nursing conception and its targets; - define the idea of community nursing; - understand and define nursing as a science discipline in context of other science disciplines; - know how to use nursing terminology; - interpret and orientate her/himself in organisational systems of nurses and midwives - work with informations in field of management of nursing care quality;
Syllabus
  • Subject matter: - History of medicine, midwifery and nurcing, evolution of midwifery education, community care history; - Health and midwifery practice, economical, political conditions and principles, importance of environment for health and illness; - European strategy of health care, Health 21 programme and other international activities, primary healt care and prevention (possibilities of primary prevention); - Basic terminology of nursing; - Nursing profession – new strategy; - Nursing methodology – nursing process as a nursing practise method (history, definition and phases, their analysis, NANDA, NIC, NOC, benefits for nurses and client); - Health care quality management – quality evaluation, systems of nurses’ work, standards, audit, evaluation, accreditation, registration, community care and midwifery; - Nursing models and theories in the practice of midwifery, - Multicultural care in midwifery
