Course objectives
This course covers the introductory principles and concepts of human physiology. Students will learn and understand the basic principles, concepts and facts of human physiology. The course will examine cellular, organ and whole body levels of organization with special focus on the relationships between structure and functions. As an elementary course, physiology not only provides the foundations for the subsequent clinical courses, but also integrates the knowledge acquired by students in the courses of anatomy and histology and uses the same methodology as clinical biochemistry and medical physics.
Syllabus
  • Cellular physiology, cell membranes, functional systems of the cell.
  • Tissues.Blood cells, blood groups, hemostasis, blood coagulation.
  • Immunity.
  • Transport of substances through the cell membrane.Membrane potentials and action potentials.
  • Heart muscle, rhytmical excitation of the heart. Circulation.
  • Electrocardiogram, methods of diagnostic in clinical cardiology. Cardiac failure, atherosclerosis.
  • Overwiew of the circulation, medical physics of pressure, flow, resistence.
  • Microcirculation, local control of blood flow.
  • Respiration, mechanics of pulmonary ventilation, pulmonary volumes and capacities.
  • Transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide.Regulation of respiration, hypoxia.
  • Kidney, urin formation by the kidneys, Integration of renal mechanism for control of blood volume.Countercurrent multiplier system in the loop of Henle, renal clearence.
  • Body fluids compartments, regulation of acid-base balance
