- The aim is to educate the students in basic principles of molecular biology and molecular genetics analytical techniques.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, students should be able to understand principles of basic techniques of molecular biology and human genetics. They should understand stucture of human genome, principles of genome analyses and principles of heritability. They should be able to employ basic mathods of molecular biology and genetics.
- Syllabus
- Introduction, basic statistics in analysis of experimental results.
- Internet resources for molecular biology, databases and tools (Web of Science, Pubmed..).
- Computer assisted image analysis. Light microscopy, basics of photographic techniques.
- Workflow of handling with samples of biologic material.
- Enzymes as a markers of diseases, electrophoretic analysis of proteins.
- Polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis with SDS (SDS-PAGE). Principles of the method, densitometric analysis of electrophoregrams.
- Western blotting and immunochemistry.
- Nucleid acids isolation, principles of polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
- Detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms using PCR a agarose gel electrophoresis.
- Computer assisted analysis of agarose gel electrophoresis results.
- Cell cultures.
- DNA sequencing, DNA quantitation using real-time PCR.

- At the end of this course, students should be able to understand principles of basic techniques of molecular biology and human genetics. They should understand stucture of human genome, principles of genome analyses and principles of heritability.

- Internet resources for molecular biology, databases and tools (Web of Science, Pubmed..).
- Computer assisted image analysis. Light microscopy, basics of photographic techniques.
- Workflow of handling with samples of biologic material.
- Enzymes as a markers of diseases, electrophoretic analysis of proteins.
- Polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis with SDS (SDS-PAGE). Principles of the method, densitometric analysis of electrophoregrams.
- Western blotting and immunochemistry.
- Nucleid acids isolation, principles of polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
- Detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms using PCR a agarose gel electrophoresis.
- Computer assisted analysis of agarose gel electrophoresis results.
