Course objectives
At the end of the course students will know what the principles of drug prescription are and what information is available in the Pharmacopoea, and how to make calculations of basic pharmacological parameters. They be able to recognize main drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum.
Syllabus
  • SEMINARS:
  • 1. Introduction to the study of pharmacology. Pharmacological calculations. Latin terminology in the drug prescription
  • 2. Survey of drug dosage forms and application routes. Pharmacopoea.
  • 3. Practical preparation of selected drug dosage forms.
  • 4. Introduction into the pharmacology of autonomic nervous system. Terminology.
  • 5. Pharmacology of sympathetic peripheral autonomic nervous system. Receptors of sympathetic system and possibilities of pharmacological intervention.
  • 6. Pharmacology of parasymphatetic peripheral autonomic nervous system. Receptors of parasympathetic system and possibilities of pharmacological intervention.
  • 7. Pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of peptic ulcer disease. Antiemetic agents.
  • 8. Parenteral nutrition. Therapy of obesity.
  • 9. Students´co-talks. Vitamins B, C, A, D, E, K. Food supplements.
  • Revision, multiple-choice test, credits.

Teaching methods
In practicals students are provided with a pharmacology teacher presentation with presentations of video-programmes related to the topic stated in curriculum followed by discussion, including specific reports prepared as homework and presented by students. There are also presented video-programmes to demonstrate manufacturing of drug dosage forms, some of them will be manually prepared by students.
Assessment methods
During the studying the student has to prove active knowledge of pharmacology acquired to get the credit. The student has to pass the final written exam - multiple-choice test.
