Course objectives
The subject acquaints students with application of biomechanic principles to human organism. It is aimed at work biomechanics, medical biomechanics, orthopaedic biomechanics and sport biomechanics. The main goal is integration of physical, mathematical, physiological, anatomical, morphological etc. knowledge to the branch of physiotherapy and medical rehabilitation. It is focused on statics, kinematics and dynamics of bodies and its arrangements and mechanical characteristics of tissues and locomotor system as a whole. Succesful graduate students will be able to apply biomechanic principles in various areas of human movement, they will be able to analyze movement, to recommned adequate technique of movement and to evaluate its effect and safety. They will also be able to evaluate aids for daily activities, including aids for other motor and sport activities.
Syllabus
  • Introduction, history and basic definitions, terminology and quantities in biomechanics. Kinetics and kinematics of translation a rotatory movements. Dynamics of movements of bodies and its arrangements. Physical characteristics of biological structures - ligament, muscle, bone, cartilage. Differentiation between tensile, pressure, flexion, torsional and cyclic loading of tissue. Biomechanical principles of human movement and motor forces in the frame of structures of human body. Biomechanics of lower limbs and trunk. Application of biomechanical principles on activities of daily life and other motor and sport activities. Biomechanics of adaptation, maladaptation and traumatic mechanisms of human motor system. Methods of experimental biomechanics and techniques of biomechanical analysis of posture and movement.
