Syllabus

• General safety measures. Volumetric ware, preparation of solutions.
• Measuring pH values of solutions.
• Construction of titration curves.
• Preparation of phosphate buffers. Titration of buffers, buffer capacity.
• Ions in tap water: contents of nitrates, nitrites, ammonium, calcium and magnesium ions.
• Adsorption chromatography of azo dyes (TLC). Column chromatography of carotenoids. Principles of HPLC.
• Oxidation of alcohols. Reducing properties of sugars. Reducing effects of L-ascorbate.
• Amino acids and proteins: ionization and isoelectric point, solubility and precipitation, colour reactions.
