Course objectives
Students will practice speaking English and develop vocabulary through active participation in class activities. Teachers in training will be expected to take an active role in their learning through discussion, questioning strategies, and self-reflection.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to ask questions, respond to questions, and initiate a discussion of selected topics.
Syllabus
  • Six topics for discussion will be selected from suggestions by class members. Students will choose their groups for discussion and decide among strategies for leading and participating in a discussion.

Teaching methods
class discussion, pair work, group work, work in learning centres, homework, students' presentations
Assessment methods
Attendance is mandatory; students may miss two classes but no more. 80% active participation in leading a discussion, preparation for discussion participation, and assigned work as required. 20% self-evaluation which requires that each student respond to 5 questions regarding what he/she has learned in this class due to preparation and participation.
