Cíle předmětu
Students will develop all four skill areas, reading, listening, speaking and writing, for better communication. As they are expected to enter the class at an upper-intermediate level (CEFR B2), they will work on extending the range and accuracy of their language as well as register. They will learn to analyze language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they are changing their roles - from being the users of the language into being a source of information about the language and language model providers. As an added value to the course, students will focus on and improve key study skills (e.g., organizing study time, critical thinking, dealing with extended texts, writing assignments, etc.).
Výstupy z učení
• the student will be able to actively use the English language in the whole spectrum of communicative situations at level B2 according to CEFR • the student will be able to monitor the language use for accuracy • the student will be able to use the right register in spoken and written form • the student will be able to realistically evaluate the proficiency level and determine the need for individual work towards improvement, • the student will be able to autonomously work with printed and electronic resources towards self-development

Výukové metody
This class uses a variety of teaching methods such as pair and group work, class and online forum discussions (in moodl), short class presentations, role-plays, and acted-out dialogues, and learning centers. The Moodl A site provides students with more self-study materials.
Metody hodnocení
Students will attend a total of 3 hours every week.
Since this is a practical language course, attendance is expected. The department sets the level of attendance at 80%, so it is suggested that students not miss more than 3 classes.
Throughout the semester there will be various tasks that make up the continuous assessment.
The continuous assessment will be based on work done in class with the book New English File Upper Intermediate as well as out-of-class assignments.
Students are also expected to study the book English Grammar In Use in their own time.
The final test will consist of evaluation of the students grammar and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading (FCE level), writing and listening sections. The final test will include various tasks from FCE tests. A test of speaking will also be administered with a pass mark 70 points.
The general pass mark for this course is 70% which includes both the continuous assessment and the final test.
