Course objectives
The course is designed as the introduction to children’s literature and its relationship with primary education. The aim of the course is:
1) to explore characteristic genres of children’s literature such as poetry, fairy tales, picture books, fantasy
2) to introduce some typical themes and conventions associated with children’s literature
3) to develop in students the ability to read children’s literature critically
4) to provide theoretical background for using children’s literature in the classroom
5) to stimulate students to become avid readers
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, students will :
- be acquainted with characteristic genres of children’s literature such as poetry, fairy tales, picture books, fantasy
- be able to read children’s literature critically
- be able to select appropriate methods and activities for using children’s literature in the classroom
