Student ovládá historický vývoj LPM v chronologickém sledu, je obeznámen také s vývojem žánrů LPM. Dle náplně seminářů umí reflektovat zásadní současná témata LPM.

Course objectives
Particular attention will be paid to selected current themes of literature for children and young adults. At the end of this course students will be able to interpret books on these themes and discuss them. Students will be aware of the importance of reading books dealing with topical issues and will be prepared to discuss them with their future pupils. Students will develop all their literary knowledge and intepretational skills in order to communicate with a literary work more efficiently.
Syllabus
  • Attention will be paid preferably to these themes in contemporary literature for children and young people: - shifts of continuity and discontinuity - problems of tolerance - drug problem - violence - fantasy - theme of death - problem of handicap - problem of outsiders

Teaching methods
In the form of a seminar (interpretations and analysis of selected works), students will get a deeper insight into trends and movements of Czech literature of the period in question. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities of Czech poetry and prose, significant for the particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.

Course requirements: active participation in the seminars (students can miss one session).
