Course objectives
In this course, which is a follow-up to the seminar Czech literature of the first half of the 19th century, students will learn about the main values of the Czech literature of the second half of the 19th century. In the course of the term they write an assignment that deals with a topic related to the given period. They will also present the results of their literary-historical and literary-critical studies orally in the seminars.

Teaching methods
Students will use and enhance their knowledge of literary trends and movements in Czech literature of the studied period. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities of Czech poetry and prose of the period in question. They will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Discipline is conclusing with the verbal examination. The exam tests both theoretical knowledge of Czech literature of the 19th century, but also knowledge of required readings. Conditions of admission to examination are an active participation in the seminars and a seminary written work.
