Course objectives
The course objective is to outline the development of Czech literature between the years 1918 and 1945. The main emphasis is put on the problematic nature of individual literary genres, key personalities, movements and groups, as well as the social context. students will use and enhance their knowledge of Czech literature in the given period. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities of the period in question.

Drama and Theatre between the two wars. 6. Literary criticism and periodicals between the two wars. 7. Literature in the Czech lands written in german. 8. General characteristics of the years 1938-1945. 9. Poetry in the period of the German occupation. 10. Prose in the period of the German occupation. 11. Drama and Theatre in the period of the German occupation. 12. Literary criticism and periodicals during the Nazi occupation.

Teaching methods
In the form of a seminar (analyses and interpretations of selected works), students will use and further develop knowledge of literary trends and movements in the given period. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities significant for that particular period. They will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Type of completion: oral examination. In the seminars students inteprete given texts as a whole class and read their presentations. At the exam their knowledge of at least 40 books is tested.
