Course objectives
This course introduces students to the main issues and problems in contemporary literary theory. The course is focused both on the most important personality in contemporary literary theory and on the main concepts, theories and methods used in contermporary study of literature. In the first part of the course students will study historical basis of Czech and world literary theory since 1990 up till now. In the second part of the course students will study the most significant contemporary literary theories and approaches, e. g. structuralism, narratology, hermeneutics, theory of fictional worlds, and poststructuralism.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to interpret literary works of art as well as justify and support their views using their knowledge of literary studies. Students will know not only contemporary issues in literary theory, but also the most essential concepts, contemporary theories and methods, which they will be able to use in interpretation of literary works of art.
