Course objectives
This course introduces students to the historical and sociological research of reading and readership. The course objective is to master the essentials of literary sociology applied on reading and readership.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able to understand historical, theoretical and methodological development of reading and readership research. They will get better appreciation of key concepts and sociological methods using in reading research. Students will gain literary theoretical terminology focused on reading research and be able to apply these terminology in own reading research.

Teaching methods
Students will use and develop their knowledge of the history of reading and of sociological methods focused on reading and readerhip in the given period during lecture. They will use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual research and study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Course completion: Written examination (written test). Exam requirements: required reading, hand in a written assignment (i.e. own reading research), satisfactory results of a written test.
