Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarised as follows:
to learn and to practice problems of acid/base theory, acid/base reactions, complex formations, complex reactions, precipitate formations, precipitation reactions and oxidation/reduction reactions.
to intensify of knowledge of the periodic system of elements and regularities in this system
to learn and to practice acid/base, complex, precipitate and oxidation/reduction titrations on examples.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student will gain:  knowledge of acid and base theory, acid-base reactions, complex and complex formation reactions, precipitation and precipitation reactions, oxidation and reduction and oxidation-reduction reactions, knowledge of the periodic system of elements and the laws in it  skills in solving chemical calculations in the field of acid-base, complex-forming, precipitation and oxidation-reduction reactions and titrations.  Comprehensive overview related to the content of the subject's subject matter (Periodic Element System, Basic Element Groups, Reaction and Titration Types)
Syllabus
  • 1. Acid/base reactions (pH of strong protolytes, pH of weak protolytes, amfolytes, hydrolyses of salts, buffers).
  • 2. Complex reactions (complex equilibria reactions, stability constant).
  • 3. Precipitation reactions (constant of solubility, solubility matter calculations).
  • 4. Oxidation/reduction reactions (oxidation/reduction potential).
  • 5. Regularities in the periodic system of elements (in periods, in groups).
  • 6. Basic groups of elements (alkalic metals, alkalic earth metals, chalcogens, halogens, rare gasses, lanthanoids, actinoids etc.).
  • 7. Acid/base titrations (alcalimetry, acidimetry).
  • 8. Complex titrations (chelatometry).
  • 9. Precipitate titrations (argentometry).
  • 10. Oxidation/reduction titration (permanganate titration, iodometry).
