Course objectives
The course deepens theoretical knowledge in the field of economics with links to current examples of economic practice. It describes the basic concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics. It clarifies the behavior of economic agents within the markets connected with the formation of supply and demand for goods or factors of production, depending on individual market structures and the functioning of the market. It describes the spectrum of macroeconomic indicators and their use in the explanation of economic cycles. It characterizes instruments of economic policy and possibilities of their use in influencing the economy.

Knowledge: microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts and models, economic policy instruments
Skills: clarification of the behavior of economic subjects and the possibility of using economic policy tools with use in teaching vocational subjects
Attitudes: ability to critically evaluate economic information
Learning outcomes
Students should be able to clarify the formation of supply and demand, the functioning of markets, the economic cycle and the influence of the economy in the economic policy of the state.

  • 1) Introduction to economics and development of economic thinking.
  • 2) Costs in economics.
  • 3) Supply, demand, their formation and elasticity.
  • 4) Market and market structures.
  • 5) Markets of factors of production.
  • 6) Economic growth and economic cycle.
  • 7) Unemployment and inflation.
  • 8) Consumption, savings and investments.
  • 9) Financial markets, banks and banking system.
  • 10) Fiscal policy.
  • 11) Monetary policy.
  • 12) International trade, European Union and involvement of the Czech Republic in international economic institutions.

The course consists of lectures, discussions, solving of thematic examples, and individually processed seminar essay on a selected economic topic.

The course ends with an exam in the form of written test.
