Course objectives
The aim of the course is to enable the students to understand the composition of the French sentence, its specifics, the function of the word types in the sentence members and the conformity of the subject with the hypothesis; to further analyze sentences in coordinate and subordinate relationships and to explain the word order in individual types of sentences.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to: dominate terminology necessary for syntax analysis of sentences; understand the structure of clauses and sentences based on the relation of syntax and morphology; demonstrate procedures used in syntax analysis; define types of sentences; reproduce sentence membres and word order; analyse typology of discourse.
Syllabus
  • 1.Types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, optative and exclamatory). Positive and negative sentences. 2. Simple sentence monomial, binomial, expression of monomial sentence (by verb, by another word class). 3. Adjunct sentence with a general, indefinite subject, impersonal phrases. 4. Sentence with verbal, noun-verbal and non-verbal predicate. 5. Unity of predicate and subject: ce, la plupart, une foule, peu; (expressions of number. 6. Parts of speech (parties du dixcours) - terminology and examples. 7. Sentence members (membres de la proposition) - terminology and exmples. 8. Co-ordinate sentence, co-ordinating relations. 9. Subordinate sentence: minor clauses according to the function. Using of senses and moods in clauses. 10. Participle and its function in French syntaxe. 11. Word ordre in French sentence. 12. Punctuation, differences between Czech and French.

Assessment methods
Ending: credit. Requirements for ending: attendance (min. 70%), homework exercises, two written tests (a successful outcome are considered tests with a minimum diameter of   70% correct answers).
