Course objectives
At the end of the course, students: are acquainted with the predecessors of the genre, classical and temporary leading authors and with detective stories for children and youth; learn text analysis, emphasis is given at methodological possibilities offered by detective stories. The output will be a methodologically focused seminar work coming from the reading of recommended authors.

  • 1. Introduction to the genre problems. 2. Predecessors (Vidocq, Balsac, Hugo, Gaborieu. 3. Classical period (Leroux, Leblanc, Malet, Simenon). 4. “Néo-polar” authors. 5. Contemporary French detective fiction, literary awards, festivals 6. French detective fiction for children and youth 7. Methodological exploitation of detective fiction for children and youth (www. Polar.fle).
