Course objectives
The course aims to provide the students with the basic orientation in research in education and also to provide inspiration for their own research activities, namely for their diploma thesis. Upon finishing the course, the students will be able to formulate the project of their diploma thesis, to describe its structure and to justify the selected research methods and approaches.
Learning outcomes
Upon finishing the course the students will be able to design their own research project for the purposes of their diploma thesis, inlucing the selection of specific research methods and techniques of data collection and analysis.
Syllabus
  • The course is an extended introduction into topics in the area of educational research in a broader context of sociohumanities. Attention will be paid to the role of research in formulating and testing theories and designing educational research. Students learn to formulate research questions and design lege artis procedures of finding methodologically correct answers. The discussed issues include theoretical and philosophical background of educational research; qualitative and quantitative approaches to educational research; descriptive and inferential statistics; constructing research sample; observation, questionnaire, interview, content analysis as research methods in educational research.
