Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to practice and complement the discussed in the lectures material; development of communication skills in written and oral form; practice of translation from Russian into Czech and vice versa.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to practically use the syntactic structures in oral communication; to analyze the construction of Russian sentences; to compare the syntactic system of Russian and Czech languages.
Syllabus
  • 1. Syntactic units. Similarities and differences between the Russian and Czech.
  • 2. The simple sentence. Determining the kinds of sentences according to the communicative intent.
  • 3. Analysis of the sentence. Specifics of Russian negative sentences.
  • 4. The main constituents of the sentence: subject and predicate. Determining the types of predicates.
  • 5. Determining of the kinds of attribute.
  • 6. The direct and indirect object. Supplement. Modes of expression. Translation structures complement to Czech language.
  • 7. The adverbial: classification, modes of expression.
  • 8. Differences in the use of one-element sentences in Russian in comparison with Czech.
  • 9. Complex sentences: syntactic analysis, specifics of translations of sentences from Russian to Czech language.
  • 10. Determining the type of coordinate sentences.
  • 11. Analysis of complex sentences.
  • 12. Analysis of the sentences with different types of syntactic relations.

Teaching methods
Students work up homework and within an individual work they practice syntactical exercises.
Assessment methods
Requirements:
1) homework;
2) passing of final work (75% of correct answers is needed to pass).
