Prerequisites

The course is focused on the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills for current and future employees in different areas of work with persons with socially pathological behaviors (employees of state and non-profit sector with a focus on people with addictions, workers in the integration of minorities, etc.). The course builds on basic knowledge of the subject Special education for adults people with socio-pathological behaviors 1.

Course objectives

The aim is to deepen students' knowledge of current socio-pathological behaviors. Students will broaden their knowledge and acquire the ability to map in detail the phenomena and in practice to work with them. The purpose of the course is to develop skills leading to the practice of intervention and therapeutic effects of selected socio-pathological behaviors. Expected outcomes: student has an overview of the terminology and is able to identify causes of selected socio-pathological behaviors; is able to monitor the displays specific socially pathological behavior and detect possible modes of intervention; can work with different approaches to specific manifestations of socio-pathological behavior in the area of prevention and intervention.

Syllabus

• Main topics (syllabus): • The issue of homelessness, shelters, social housing, social housing services. • Unemployment; Social exclusion on the basis of the financial situation; The work is indebted persons. • Prostitution, trafficking in human beings; Socially pathological behaviors related to sexuality. • Minorities, immigrants, refugees, foreigners in the Czech Republic; Cultural differences, stereotypes and prejudices. • Roma specifics of Roma family values ​​- traditional and current situation; Social exclusion. • Addictive behavior; Specifics of addiction among women, young people and seniors. • Prevention and treatment of addictive behavior, dependence in the context of quality of life; Drug prevention in the country. • Substance abuse. The theory of the origin and maintenance of drug dependence. Alcohol dependency. Tobacco abuse. Psychoactive substances. • Classification of drug effects and uses of somatic, psychological and social complications and effects of addiction; Drug-related crime. • Special anti-drug programs; National drug program; Harm reduction and substitution programs. • Social work with people with addictions; Low-threshold; Outreach work with drug users; Current trends in the work of the addictive behavior - MI, AA, self-supporting groups, therapeutic communities; After-treatment system for drug addicts. • Gambling; New forms of addictive behavior (addiction to the Internet, computer games); sects and sectarianism; Dependence on the cults. • The social counseling; Special advice; The types of equipment and services. • Counseling process; Consulting diagnosis and intervention. • Ethical and moral aspects of the therapeutic relationship with the client. Teaching methods

Working with compulsory literature. Essay on the topic based on the syllabus in the range of 5 pages. Active participation in group discussions at the seminar.

Assessment methods

To pass the course is required written test of 30 questions on the content of the syllabus. The answers are offered in a closed form, the right is just one of several listed. It should reach at least 50% correct answers.
