Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students who consider studying abroad with specific communication, language and intercultural skills to be able to cope with various situations when studying in a foreign country. The course will focus on revising and extending the vocabulary connected to education in English, studying abroad, cultural differences, English for academic purposes, etc.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
  • introduce themselves/their university/faculty and their field of study;
  • share their ideas and discuss different issues associated with the topic of education;
  • show a good command of vocabulary connected with living/studying abroad at B1+/B2 level of the CEFR.
  • Other choices include presentations in English and a very short course of academic writing.

    • Presentation and presentation skills,
    • Introducing oneself, field of study, university,
    • Intercultural communication,
    • Accommodation, studying at university and unexpected situations in a foreign country,
    • Culture shock and cultural differences,
    • Practical experience sharing

    Teaching methods
    Class and group discussions, presentation and soft skills practice, expressing opinion and sharing experience, giving arguments etc. Activities are a mix of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
    Assessment methods
    Course requirements: active participation in classes, oral presentation, completed in-term writing assignments, continuous tests during semester.
