Course objectives
The course deals with basic theoretical questions of methodology of literary education - the principles of the process of literary communication and text reception, didactic interpretation etc. - and their application in the specific environment of nursery schools.
Learning outcomes
Methodology - Teaching Literature 1 Having met course requirements, students will understand the basic theoretical questions of methodology of literary education. They will be able to explain the principles of the process of literary communication and text reception, and demonstrate their knowledge of basic aspects of the process of literary education and didactic interpretation. Students will be able to apply such theoretical knowledge in the specific environment of nursery schools.
Syllabus
  • 1. Methodology of literary education as a scientific branch, the history of literary education. 2. The role of literary education in pre-school preparations, its content and aims in the connetions with parts of pre-school education, the connections with other aesthetical and language education. 3. Literature as an experience and instrument of personal development. 4. Reading, literary and cultural literacy and the beginning of their developlment at nursery school, reading habits. 5. Specific features of the pre-school children reception process (emotional and rational parts of reception). 6. The teachers preparation for the work with artistic text at nursery school, literary communication. 7. The functions and methods of motivation. 8. The survey of the methods of didactic interpretation and their modification in the conditions of nursery school. 9. Literary education in initial classes of primary school.

Teaching methods
The course has a form of lectures. Methods: theoretical preparation - a lecture combined with subsequent discussions on the professional issues of the course.
Assessment methods
The type of course: lecture. Completion: credit. Requirements: students pass a written test (close and open questions) which will focus on main themes covered in lectures - specific features of literary education at nursery schools, the reception of artistic texts, teachers´ preparation for the work with literature, main methods of aesthetic education - and related questions (see the syllabus). The test is usually composed of 10-12 open questions, general passmark is 70 percent.
