Course objectives
The aim of the course is to (1) provide students with theoretical knowledge about the most significant genres of German-language literature (not only) for children and adolescents, using selected literary texts as examples; (2) familiarize students with the principles of working with literary texts (from the selection of a suitable literary text, its literary and didactic analysis, to its subsequent didacticization) in German as a Foreign Language teaching; and (3) develop students' ability to apply these principles when working with literary texts (not only) for children and adolescents in German as a Foreign Language teaching.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the students will be able to (1) describe the main genres of German-language literature (not only) for children and adolescents and, based on selected literary texts, clarify their specific characteristics for working with them in foreign language teaching; (2) describe the basic principles of working with literary texts in German as a foreign language teaching (from selecting a suitable literary text, its literary and didactic analysis, to its subsequent didacticization); and (3) apply them when working with literary texts (not only) for children and adolescents in German as a foreign language teaching.

  • Definition of a literary text; selected genres of German-language literature (not only) for children and adolescents (poetry, song, picture book, comics, short story, ...) and their specifics for working with them in foreign language teaching; basic principles of working with literary texts in German as a Foreign Language teaching: goals of working with literary texts in foreign language teaching, selection of a suitable literary text, literary and didactic analysis of the texts, approaches and methods of working with literary texts.
