Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand of the Religious studies. This subject intends to deal with not only contemporary essential world religions, but also all fideistic lines of human thought that are religious in principle, even though they are usually not seen as such.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to: -identify the common elements of world religions -describe world religions -identify the effects of prehistoric and ancient religious thinking at present
Syllabus
  • Issues: 1. Three function of religious ideas 2. Contemporary status and character of religion - invation to the search for the roots 3. Myth and its continuation in religion 4. Orienthal lines of thought - Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism 5. Ancient religions in the early cultures of Egypt and Mesopotamia 6. Judaism 7. Islam 8. Christianity and its contemporary forms - Orthotoxy, Catolicism, Protestantism 9. Contemporary (quasi) christian and postmodernist religious movements 10.Assesment of the role of the religion un history, in the present times and in the future
