At the end of the course the students should be able to explain the problems of the past and the present of European integration.

Syllabus
  • Lectures: 1. The history of European integration I (1918-1945). 2. The history of European integration II (1945-2010) - ECSC, Rome treaties, Maastricht, Amsterdam, Agenda 2000. 3. Lisbon summit - March 2000. 4. The results of Nizza summit - December 2000. 5. The work of the Convent - the draft of EU constitution. 6. Lisabon treaties. 7. The supreme organs of the EU. 8. The budget. Regional policies of the EU. Structural and cohesive funds. 9. Social charter of the Council of Europe. Social policy of the EU. 10. Education in EU member countries. 11. The EU and the developing countries. 12. Non-European integration attempts. 13. The Czech Republic and the EU (Kobenhavn criteria, European (association) treaties, economical and social impact of our entry to the EU).
