Course objectives
Course participants gain knowledge about the system of civic education in Germany and Austria, its principles and design. They will be acquainted with the historical roots of civic education as well as with the possibilities of its practical application.
Learning outcomes
Course participants will acquire the practical skills needed to teach civic education in schools (teaching methods, model clock preparation) and out-of-school education (familiarize themselves with forms of good practice, methods of writing project proposals).

  • 1. Historical Roots and History of Political Education in Germany/Austria 2. System of Political Education in Germany/Austria - Principles, Types, Actors and Financing of Political Education 3. the knowledge and skills of a politically educated citizen; Methods of political education 4. Political education at school - state framework, preparation of teachers and implementation 5. Practical implementation of the methods of political education in the classroom 6. Political education outside school: value-neutral and value-oriented political education 7. Practical implementation of non-scholastic political education - development of a project proposal 8. Education after Auschwitz - Review of National Socialism 9. Current best practice in the processing of the totalitarian past
