Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to provide the students with multidisciplinar knowledge in the area of career counselling. Topics will cover areas of career counselling in elementary and secondary education, but will also address work with adult clients.
Learning outcomes
The students will be acquainted with growing importance of modern understanding of career counselling in a world of rapid change.
Syllabus
  • Three blocks of topics will cover areas of: 1. Introduction to career counselling: basic concepts, history of career counselling, contemporary life-span approaches, multidisciplinarity, theoretical background of career counselling, qualification requirements of career counsellor, situation of career counselling in Czech Republic. 2. Career counselling as a specific area of counselling services, principles of modern career counselling, phases of career counselling, ethical aspects and dilemmas in career counselling, specific issues in counselling children and youth, counselling in school context, how to cope with difficult and problematic situations, case studies, counselling interview excercises. 3. Topic of career choice and development of competencies suited for job market, informations about job market, role of cereer counsellor/school in development of following competencies: time management, planning etc., competencies transfer between various occupations, excercises for compentency development.
