Course objectives
The aim is to provide a comprehensive overview of Russian historical transformations, focusing on the development of morphological and syntactic system. The attention will also be paid to the comparative aspects of Russian and Czech languages.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course student will be able to describe important changes in the development of Russian language; to interpret the history of Russian grammar; to analyze phenomena and structures of contemporary Russian in diachronic perspective; to apply acquired knowledge when comparing the grammar of Russian and Czech languages.
Syllabus
  • 1. Pronouns in Old Russian language. Development of numerals. Etymology of numerals.
  • 2. Verbs. Present, past and future tenses in Old Russian language. Category of tense and category of aspect.
  • 3. Imperative and conditional.
  • 4. Participles and transgressive.
  • 5. Unchangeable parts of speech.
  • 6. Historical syntax.
