Course objectives
The course is designed as an introduction to theoretical and practical grasp of Russian literature which is an essential part of Russian culture, history, etc. The subject is considered as an introduction into critical thinking and writing about literature At the end of this course, students will learn literary-theoretical foundations for self-reception, interpretation and criticism of literary texts using basic Russian-Czech literary terminology.

  • Basic terms and critical literature to the subject
  • Specific of Russian literature and its study. Periodization, currents and movements in Russian literature
  • Přehled vývoje základních literárněvědných metod – interpretační přístupy
  • Comparative literature
  • Literary genres. The theory of literary genres
  • The theory of a vers. Introduction into the theory of a vers. Prosodical systems. Verse types of sylabotonic verse system
  • Analyses of a literary text. Literary work and its reception
  • Figures of speech in the literary text (syntactic, stylistic figures, etc.)

Teaching methods
The subject will be taught in the form of a lecture.
Assessment methods
Condition to examination is submitting of an interpretative analysis of one of the Russian literary work, also control obligatory readings. The written exam consists of theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part contains questions from literary theory, methodology and terminology; practical part contains questions from obligatory reading.
