Prerequisites
The course introduces the students into education with disabilities and disorders considering behaviour and emotions. It aims to deepen the knowledge of educational process in ethopedics. Topics of criminality and crime responsibility of the minors with delinquent behaviour will be also discussed in the seminars. Another partial aim of the course is an introduction of learning disabilities concerning basic terminology, aetiology and attitude methods of work with pupils with learning disabilities. Students get familiar with basic terminology of learning disabilities, will be able to specify the approaches and educational possibilities of pupils with learning disabilities.

Course objectives
• students are familiar with educational process concerning ethopedics • students know the system of school facilities of preventive educational care and facilities of institutional and protective education • students learn about the diagnostics of behaviour disorders symptoms • students gain competences of encouraging the education of children at risk and with behaviour disorders • students are familiar with particular types of learning disabilities and their possible compensation
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: 1) distinguish key terms in ethopedics 2) analyze the pupil's medical history and propose an action plan 3) set up special pedagogical care
Syllabus
  • 1. Ethopedics – basic facts, beginning of the discipline, international context. Current ethopedics. Terminology of the discipline. Researches and their contribution to practice. 2. Attitudes to classification of behaviour disorder – specification of target groups of ethopedics. 3. Prevention of discipline problems – school, class, discipline rules, evaluation, relationships, effective education. 4. Issues considering education of pupils with emotional disorder or behaviour disorder in main educational stream and in special education facilities. 5. Specifics of disorder behaviour of children from socioculturally disadvantaged background. 6. Behaviour disorders connected to attention disorders – ADD, ADHD, MBD (definitions, causal factors, prevention, diagnostics, intervention). 7. Behaviour disorders connected to aggression, vandalism, robbery, bullying. Behaviour disorders connected to conflicts – lie, truancy, theft. Substance abuse. 8. Probation and mediation. 9. Definitions of learning disabilities. Characteristics of particular learning disability (concerning reading, writing, counting, drawing, musicality, coordination). 10. Causes (aetiology) of learning disabilities. Symptoms. Prevention. Diagnostics. 11. Characteristics of attention deficit disorders (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD). 12. Personality of an individual with learning disabilities (emotions, willpower, expression, socialization). 13. Education of pupils with learning disabilities in Czech educational system. Legislation.
