Course objectives
The aim of the course is to equip students with fundamental socio-psychological theories and basic concepts and phenomena that examines social psychology. The themes of lectures are chosen so that students can utilize them in their profession. Curriculum is built on knowledge of the subjects: Introduction to Pedagogy and Psychology (in theory of basic emotions, types of learning, motivation, personality) and Developmental Psychology (attachment theory, socialization, development of relations). Students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the impact of various social groups on the individual. Students will have the opportunity to reflect the different social influences on themselves as citizens and on themselves as teachers and also on their pupils. Seminars are focused on self experience and increase of a sensitivity in social activities and on a discussion on key topics of social psychology. Final evaluation involves both activities during the semester as well as the results of the written test.
Learning outcomes
After the course student will be able:
to understand the basic terms of social psychology and to explain them.
to describe and explain several key theories of social psychology (attechment, social learning, frustration-aggression, basic emotions, attribution) and several social phenomena (conformity, obedience to authority, the emergence of social stereotypes and other social biases).
to understand the influence of the group on the individual, the occurrence of stereotypes and prejudices, the relations between groups and the pressures within the group.
to understand the usefulness of empirical findings of social psychology in planning and reflection of their own pedagogical practice.
to deepen the ability of self-reflection in the field of socio-psychological phenomena.
to reflect the issue of inclusion from the perspective of social psychology.
Syllabus
  • Lecture syllabus: • 1st and 2nd week: The role of socialization, social phenomena in terms of evolution; Social relationships in early childhood, attachment theory (Bowlby, J. and M. Ainsworth), the impact of early social experience on later life • 3rd and 4th week: Social influence in shaping personality in different age periods; The influence of family, sibling constellation, the impact of education on the formation of personality; social perception • 5th and 6th week: Inter-group relations: theories and factors involved in intergroup behavior, the role of social groups at school age and adolescence • 7th and 8th week: The dynamics of social groups: social facilitation, social laziness, conformity, obedience to authority, influence of social roles on an individual behavior • 9th and 10th week: Emotions: communicative functions of emotions, the role of nonverbal behavior; Aggression: theory of the origin and course of aggression, social learning theory (Bandura A.) • 11th and 12th week: Conflict types and dynamics during the conflict, the conflict on campus and its solution; Social identity and self-esteem: how individuals affect membership in social groups, development of self preschoolers • • seminars syllabus: • 1st and 2nd week: Self-presentation and social embeddedness of self-concept • 3rd and 4th week: Emotions and their role in communication, management of emotions • 5th and 6th week: Aggression: its forms and dynamics in human communication (in the school environment) • 7th and 8th week: Social stereotypes: reflection and work with them • 9th and 10th week: The impact of groups on individuals: the individual as a member of a social group • 11th and 12th week: Presentation of selected works by students

Teaching methods
Lectures, group discussion, reading of selected texts, psycho-social activities
Assessment methods
For the credit student must: • read the study texts (student should answer questions related to them) • write a final test, which checks the knowledge of basic terms, phenomena and theories. In the test 60 % of questions must be correctly answered. • Has at least 80 % attendance at seminars • In small group creates a semestral work: an essay treating some topic of social psychology or social phenomena microresearch
