Students enrolling on the course are expected to have a good A2+ level of English or higher (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Course objectives
In the compulsorily-optional English for Special Educators A, students will consolidate their language skills from secondary school on B1 level, and develop academic skills in English (specialist oral presentation, academic writing, supporting arguments, discussion, etc.). Students will gradually develop their specialist vocabulary focused on special needs terminology and terminology connected to the field of education. They will also revise grammar on B1 level.

Teaching methods
Activities and tasks developing students' language skills and competencies, class and group discussions, grammar and vocabulary practice, presentation and soft skills practice, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments etc.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements:
1) Active participation in lessons and careful home preparation for each lesson(5 points)
2) Oral mini-presentation of yourself, your field of study, your plans for the future etc., in week 3 (5 points)
3) Passing mid-term test in week 8 (20 points)
4) Oral presentation of interesting facts connected to special needs education in week 11 - find an interesting English text on the internet/in a magazine etc., focusing on the topic of new ideas/trends/approaches in education or special needs education (not shorter than 450 words). Read the text and fill in the reading comprehension sheet (RCS) according to the instructions (key words, summary, my opinion). Don’t forget to add the website link /bibliography of the original article! (20 points) It is necessary to submit the RCS to Odevzdavarna until 4/4/2014! Then in week 11 you are supposed to present the interesting facts from the article to your colleagues. Your presentation should be at least 6 minutes long and you are not allowed to read it. Please bring about 4 copies of the original article printed out for you colleagues.
5) Final credit test - reading, grammar,vocabulary (50 points)

Total score: max. 100 points (5+5+20+20+50) – passmark 70 points
The student who has not completed continuous assessment and all the requirements (including active participation) during the particular semester can not be credited!

Information on completion of the course: Pro úspěšné ukončení předmětu jsou předepsány v semestru průběžné kontroly, jejichž výsledky jsou započítávány do závěrečného hodnocení. Jazykový kurz není určen pro začátečníky.
The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět bude zapsán po udělení zápočtu za Vstupní test CJV_AJA2, který si student zapíše v podzimním semestru,test na úrovni A2 složí v lednu, a poté absolvuje předmět SP4BP_1AB1 v jarním semestru. Počet míst v kurzu je limitován kapacitou pracoviště.
