SP4BP_1AB1 English for SE - A
In the compulsorily-optional English for Special Educators B, the students will continue to develop their language and academic skills in English on B1 level. The English for Special Educators B course can be attended only by those students who finished the course English for Special Educators A successfully.

Course objectives
The aim of the course English for Special Educators B is to develop students' language skills and some academic skills in English on B1 level. Students will acquire the overview of the basic specialist vocabulary/terminology connected to their field of study (on B1 level).
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will be able to: understand spoken as well as written LSP language at B1 level of the CEFR; successfully participate in a spoken interaction dealing with relevant LSP issues; give an oral presentation on a specialist topic; show a good command of selected grammar structures and specialist vocabulary at B1 level of the CEFR.

  • SP4BP_2AB1 English for Special Educators B
  • Topics: Revision of special needs terminology, Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Impairment, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Speech Impairment, Physical Impairment
  • Grammar: Modal verbs, Conditional clauses, Countable x uncountable nouns, Relative pronouns/clauses, Phrasal verbs, Verbs – gerund x infinitive, Prepositions, Prepositional phrases (adjectives, verbs).

Teaching methods
90-minute seminars, activities and tasks developing students' language skills and competencies, class and group discussions, grammar and vocabulary practice, presentations, home preparation, mind-mapping, presentation and soft skills practice, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments etc.
Assessment methods
Exam requirements: 1) Active participation in seminars and careful preparation for each seminar + attendance - 2 absences admitted 2) Oral presentation 3) Final Exam – written + oral part. It is necessary to pass both parts of the final exam for at least 65%. The student who has not completed all requirements(including active participation) during the semester cannot take the final exam.
