Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to the intervention procedures, which are suitable for the work with persons with visual impairment. Students will become familiar with the guidance system in a lifelong concept, with the basics of intervention for individuals with visual impairment and for their family. Another goal will be to mediate measures and possibilities of clients' support in the field of vision therapy and social rehabilitation.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- Understand the different types and degrees of vision impairment and their impact on the normal life of a person
- Know the counseling services and their further specification for the pupil's education period with a visual impairment
- Know the advisory services and their further specification for the adolescence and adulthood period
- to understand the system of typhlorehabilitation in the Czech Republic and procedures in visual therapy for children, youth and adults
Syllabus
  • History of School and Social Intervention in Working with Persons with Visual Impairment.
  • Offer counseling and early intervention for a young child and his family. Specific methods and forms of services.
  • Offer counseling and intervention for pre-school child and his / her family. Specific methods and supportive measures with respect to age, degree and type of visual impairment (school maturity, diagnosis of sensory perception).
  • Offer counseling and intervention for a child of school age and his / her family. Specific methods and supportive measures with respect to age, degree and type of visual impairment (support for education and leisure).
  • Offer counseling and intervention for adolescent and his / her family. Specific methods and supportive measures in relation to age, grade and type of visual impairment (support for education, vocational training and choice, leisure time).
  • Offer counseling and intervention for adults with visual impairment and for their family. Specific methods and supportive measures with respect to age, grade and type of visual impairment (typhlorehabilitation).
  • Visual therapy. The role of the visual therapist, his competence.
  • Social rehabilitation of people with visual impairment. The impact of visual impairment on everyday life. Identity and autonomy of a person with a visual impairment.
  • Communication with visually impaired people and their families.
