Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic communication principles and techniques of people with visual impairment with emphasis on Braille and its writing. The subject is a practical preparation for special pedagogues and their daily work with pupils and students especially with severe visual impairment. Part of the practice is writing and reading Braille.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes of the course unit The student focuses on basic communication principles and techniques of people with visual impairment with emphasis on Braille and its writing. Student can write and read enlarged black and Braille.
Syllabus
  • • History of communication systems for people with visual impairment. • Communication principles and techniques of visually impaired. • Enlarging the print. • Communication principles and techniques of blind people. • Braille - History and Present. • Rules for writing and printing the Braille. • Braille writing tools. • Practical writing of Braille. • Access to information for blind and partially sighted people. • Teaching Braille system and specific code for people with congenital visual impairment and for people with visual impairment gained during their life, didactic specifics. • Handwriting teaching for people with congenital severe visual impairment.
