Course objectives
The main aims of the subject
understanding relations between philosophy and education
understanding relations bewteen historically based ideals of education and reality of education
to know basic trends of philosophic conceptions of education to be able work with scholarly literature
Syllabus
  • 1) Philosophy - as a theoretical discipline, as a praxis, as an applied discipline.
  • 2) Basic terminology - ontology, gnoseology, ethics, esthetics, education - upbriniging.
  • 3) Philosophy of education - ideál x reality, the 1. discurtion: kalokagathia, Plato, education in the Ideal polity, the role of myth.
  • 4) The truth as correspondence, the truth as pragmatically controled construction, the myth of the true world, the myth of biologically imbedded human being.
  • 5) The 2. discurtion - pedagogical conception of John Dewey - main characteristics, positives, negatives.
  • 6) Searching for recent ideals of education
  • 6a) depiction of the post-modern, postindustrial society
  • 6b) comparison of historical ideals of education with the current needs, the 3. discurtion: paideia, educatio, amadement of human affairs, understanding as a power
  • 6c) the proposal of an apt system of educational ideals for the 21. century.
