Course objectives
The objective of the subject is a profound introduction to the semiotics of art on the background of general semiotics for a deeper understanding of semantic characteristics of art works. The content consists of semiotic analysis of selected works of the visual, literary, musical art and architecture in terms of semiotical communicational elements of art working between the creator of an art work and its recipient. The focus will be primarily on the relationship between the arts and the pragmatic level of semiotics useful for teaching practice in the context of aesthetic education. At the end of the course the students should have a basic orientation in general semiotics, advanced orientation in semiotics of art and should be capable of practical application of semiotics in the process of aesthetic education.

Assessment methods
The doctoral student shall prepare a seminar work of an analytical nature with the use of semiotics of art in the range of 15 pages, including bibliography and footnotes. Seminar work can be thematically focused on the own doctoral thesis. In oral exam the student is required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of general semiotics, advanced orientation in semiotics of art, ability of practical application of semiotics in the process of aesthetic education.
