Course objectives
At the end of the course, students are able to express themselves in standard Czech in front of an adult and child audience. They are able to prepare a speech on a specific topic and manage it successfully. They are able to evaluate speeches from the point of view of nonverbal communication, voice technique, stylistic accomplishment, composition, argumentation and from the matter-of-fact point of view. They are acquainted with contemporary social and political issues related to teaching, education, especially to its lowest stages, to family and family politics and they are able to discuss such topics in a high quality way. They have gained basic knowledge and skills from the area of rhetoric. They know communication skills that should be mastered by a pre-school-aged child. They can evaluate such communication skills by children and develop them in the form of didactic games.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to:
- cultivated expression in standard Czech in front of the adult and child audience;
- prepare a speech on a given topic and pass it successfully;
- evaluate rhetorical speeches from the point of view of non-verbal communication, vocal technique, literacy of language, stylistic refinement, compositional, argumentative and factual;
- is familiar with current social and political issues related to education, especially the lowest levels, family and family policy;
- is capable of sound discussion on these topics;
- has acquired basic knowledge and skills in the field of rhetoric;
- knows the communication skills that a preschool child should control;
- is able to evaluate and develop these communication skills in the form of didactic games.
Syllabus
  • 1. Verbal and nonverbal communication. 2. The role of stylistic factors in the communication process. 3. Spoken and written communication . 4. History of speaking. 5. Preparation of speech. Ways of coping with stress. 6. Nonverbal communication and vocal technique (phrasing, voice modulation, articulation). 7. Standard pronunciation. Written Czech and other units of the national language. 8. Theory of argumentation. 9. Speaking tricks. Communication and ethics. 10. Communicative skills of preschool child. 11.- 12. Didactic games developing communication skills of a pre-school child.

Teaching methods
A consultation combined with discussions on the specialized issues of the subject, practical training, class discussion.
Assessment methods
1) Submission of a written work by choice: 1. Development of a research focusing on children's poetry, puzzles, rhymes, etc. 2. Processing stylistic characteristics of short text - text and style of choice. 3. Analysis of a selected example of a rhetorical style from present or from history. Range of at least 2-3 pages. 2) The exam has a written and oral part (topics according to the syllabus). The written part of the exam is an oral prerequisite; in the written part it is necessary to achieve 70% of the score, the student pulls out one of the given test circuits. A mark is a summary of the evaluation of the written paper and the exam. If the student completes the written part of the exam, but fails the oral examination, he or she repeats the oral part in the given examination period.
