Course objectives
The course objective is to introduce the literary and theoretical basics needed for students´own interpretation and analysis of literature for children and young adults as well as for their further studies of literary history. Students will be able to interpret a literary text independently. They will also be able to apply the terminology of literary science.
Syllabus
  • 1. The basic concepts and bibliography concerning the subject. 2. The specific nature of literature for youth. 3. Literary categories, kinds and genres. 4. The structure of the literary work.Interpretative approaches to literary works. 5. An introduction to the theory of verse. 6. The process of literary communication, characters, author, narrator, addressee, recipient and their mutual relationships. 7. Language means of the literary text. 8. Interpretative analyses of selected poetic and fictional texts of the literature for youth.

Type of course: consultations. Students use e-learning course materials available for them.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: students write a test which focuses on the basic terminology of literary science ( see an example in the IS) and interpretative analyses of selected poetic and fictional texts of the literature for children and young adults.
